---------------------------

I started my working career as an apprentice draftsman at VOEST-ALPINE AG in 1972. After obtaining the national qualification in 1975 I worked as a draftsman in the industrial plant departments within the metallurgical plant for three years; operating within the blast furnace, steel plant and rolling mill engineering departments.  Afterwards, I joined the VOEST-ALPINE Chemical and Petrochemical Division as a Project Engineer, where I stayed for the next seven years; this gave me an excellent insight and grounding in the various aspects of engineering.  In addition to my day job, I studied mechanical engineering at night-school and in 1982, after 5 years of study, I graduated.  Seeking new challenges outside Austria I took up the post of Site Engineer of the Company’s Petrochemical Division in East Germany, where I was responsible for the management of 640 employees in the erection of a Methanol Plant.

I left VOEST-ALPINE in 1985 to join Max Auinger G.m.b.H as the Technical Manager where I was employed from 1985 - 1992; Max Auinger G.m.b.H is a company specialising in industrial insulation in various countries such as, Austria, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Russia with the technical and commercial responsibility  from 1985 till 1992.

In May 1992, I re-joined VOEST-ALPINE as a Project Engineer (Oilfield Division) within the Machinery Construction and Engineering (MCE) Branch, operating out of Tripoli, Libya.  After major restructuring, ‘Voest Alpine Oilfield Services’ was formed with its head office re-locating from Austria to Malta in 1994; I was instrumental in this reorganisation and relocation.  In 1995, I gained promotion and took up the appointment of Regional Manager where I was responsible for the Libyan operation, reporting directly to the Managing Director.

A milestone, in both the Company’s history and my own career took place in 1997, when Voest Alpine MCE decided to embark upon a Management Buyout; this resulted in complete independence from MCE and a change of Company name to VAOS Limited.  In 2000, due to the retirement of the company Managing Director, I became one of two Managing Directors, alongside Christian Wintersteiger.
